Florida Legislative Update
May 1, 2009
The 2009 Florida Legislature is currently in an extended Session until Friday, May 8th to work out the details on the state’s budget. Legislative Leaders reached an agreement on the $65 Billion spending plan and are expected to resolve the remaining issues today and tomorrow which implement the 2009-2010 Appropriations Bill. The budget and related documents will be sent to the printer and distributed to lawmakers so that a final vote can take place on Friday, May 8th.
Attached is a summary of legislative issues that passed the Florida Legislature and that should be of interest to the FCACC.
Included in the attachment:
SB 462 by Senator Fasano on Prescription Drug Database
SB 1122 by Senator Gaetz on the Assignment of Benefits for Out-of-Network Physicians
These two bills were priority issues for the Florida Medical Association. The FMA is organizing a grassroots campaign to encourage Governor Crist to sign into law SB 1122. As soon as we have additional information from the FMA about this effort, we will let you know. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. Many thanks.
