Fellows are invited to submit research abstracts in the YIA competition to be held in conjunction with the 23nd Annual Meeting of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, August 21-23, 2009 at Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk Resort in Orlando, FL.

Timing and Abstract Submission
Abstracts may represent work in progress or may have been previously submitted for publication or presentation at a national meeting in 2009. Further, abstracts submitted in this competition are not precluded from submission for future publication or presentation. The YIA competition is part of a regional meeting and, clearly, will not preclude the fellow from submitting the abstract in a future endeavor.

Abstracts are to be submitted to the chapter office with the attached registration form before July 1, 2009. Abstracts must be submitted electronically to the e-mail address yia@accfl.org. Paper copies are not acceptable.

Eligible Competitors
All adult and pediatric cardiology fellows are eligible to enter the YIA competition.
Abstract Review, Selection and Notification
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a Chapter panel of cardiologists. Three finalists will be selected and they will be invited to the Chapter’s annual meeting described above. The finalists will be notified by August 1, 2009.

Poster Session
Abstracts not chosen for presentation may qualify to be presented at the FCACC poster session in the exhibit hall. FITs who qualify for the poster presentation will be notified at the same time as finalists for the competition.

Presentation: Date, Time and Location
The finalists will present their research on Saturday, August 22, during the Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. Each Fellow will have 15 minutes in which to present followed by 5 minutes for questions.

Prizes and Funding
The winner will receive $500 and the two other finalists will receive $250, in addition to plaques in recognition of their participation. The Chapter will provide each Fellow for a maximum of two nights’ room and taxes at Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk Resort in Orlando, FL for the nights of August 21 and 22. Travel will be reimbursed at the IRS standard rate per mile.

Registration
Fellows will register by completing a registration form for the meeting. Registration forms may be completed at www.accfl.org. In addition, the “Chief of Service or Laboratory Verification,” “Abstract Reproduction” form, and “Author Confirmation” forms must be completed (see pages below). The three finalists are expected to attend the annual meeting and social events. Many meals are included in these activities and one guest/spouse and the children of the finalists are invited to attend the social events at no charge.

Additional Considerations
Fellows entering the YIA competition must have significantly participated in the research endeavor (to be confirmed by the fellowship program).
